Donation - 1 May 2006
The NMA Secretariat meeting held on 1 May 2006 decided to
donate Rs.15,001 ( Rs. Fifteen thousand one ) in Janaandolan
Primary Treatment Fund.
Honorary
Representative- 3 May 2006
NMA has appointed Mr. Olav Myrholt of Deurali Associates
of Norway as an Honorary Representative of Nepal
Mountaineering Association to Norway. Similarly, NMA has
appointed Mr. Kageyama Shigekazu of Japan as an Honorary
Representative of International Mountain Museum, Pokhara to
Japan. NMA hopes that both the appointees will help in the
promotion of mountain tourism of Nepal worldwide.
Sir Edmund Hillary in
Nepal-7 May 2006
Sir Edmund Hillary was in Nepal from 29 April 2006- 7
May 2006. During his stay in Kathmandu, NMA President Mr.
Ang Tshering Sherpa handed over the rescheduled invitation
of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Mt. Manaslu and Mt
Lhotse scheduled on 11-13 December 2006.
Symbolic Celebration of Golden Jubilee of Mt.
Manaslu & Mt. Lhotse- 9 May 2006
On the occasion of the
Golden Jubilee of the first ascent of Mt. Manaslu and Mt.
Lhotse, a symbolic celebration was held on 9 May 2006. Mr.
Ang Tshering Sherpa, President, NMA welcomed all the guests
present at the celebration. Chief Guest, Mr. Govinda Prasad
Pandy- Secretary for Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil
Aviation inaugurated the program by lighting the panas. He
also marked the First Cancelletation on the stamps of Mt.
Manaslu (Rs. 25) and Mt. Lhotse (Rs. 25), issued by Postal
Service Department of Nepal.
His Excellency Ambassador
of Japan Mr. Tsutomu Hiraoka and His Excellency Ambassador
of French Republic Mr. Michel Jolivet were also present in
the program. His Excellency Mr. Hiraoka praised the program
and assured that maximum numbers of Japanese participants
are expected to participate in 11-13 December 2006.
Similarly, His Excellency Mr. Jolivet stressed on the
importance of program for the promotion of mountaineering
tourism in Nepal. Mr. Gopal Thapaliya- President, Gorkha
Tourism shade light on the various aspects of the cordial
relationship between Nepal and Japan. Chief Advisor to NMA-
Dr. Harka Gurung highlighted on the first ascent of Mt.
Manaslu Expedition. Chief Guest Mr. Govinda Prasad Pandey
appreciated the role of NMA in celebrating the Golden
Jubilee Programs. Mr. Kumar Poudel-
Secretary, Ministry of Information & Communication and Ms.
Yangkila Sherpa- Advisor to NMA & Hon'ble Member of House of
National Assembly was also present in the program.

JICA officials in
International Mountain Museum (IMM) -11 May 2006
JICA Vice President
Mr. Ueta, Regional Director and Country Representative Mr.
Shinji Yoshiura visited IMM on 11 May 2006. IInd Vice
President and Convener of IMM committe Mr. Bhumi Lal Lama
and General Secretary Mr. Deebas Bickram Shah along with NMA
Pokhara Chapter Board Members welcomed them at IMM premises.
Mr. Shah also presented them the plans for the future
development of IMM so that we hope to receive continuous
support from JICA in the days to come. During their visit,
Mr. Lama highly appreciated the support of JICA in bringing
IMM to this stage and hope for the continuous support to IMM
in the future.

Apa Sherpa sets record- 19
May 2006
Well-known mountaineer Mr. Apa scaled Mt. Everest for the
16th time on May 19, 2006 Friday. Mr. Sherpa along with two
Sherpas and one American reached atop Mt Everest at around
10.50 a.m. on 19 May 2006, Friday. He conquered the peak as
a Head Guide of the American expedition group 'Team No
Limit' comprising 12 foreigners and 14 high altitude guides.
Currently he is an advisor to NMA.
Artificial Climbing
Wall in Pokhara - 22 May 2006
His Excellency Michel Jolivet, Ambassador of French
Republic inaugurated the Artificial Climbing wall built in
the International Mountain Museum Pokhara premises. Embassy
of French Republic funded Rs. 7,00,000.00 to build the wall.
The wall is 21m 40 cm in height covering the area of 196
square meter in a pyramid shape.
In the program, NMA
Secretary Mr. Narhari Bhandari gave a welcome speech. Henri
Sigayret (Man behind the idea), who played a major role in
building the wall, said that the construction of wall in IMM
would help in the promotion of rock climbing to all the
enthusiasts from al over Nepal and IMM itself. His
Excellency Michel Jolivet, Ambassador of French Republic
praised the activities carried out by NMA for the promotion
of mountain tourism in Nepal. Hari Dhoj Tulachan, President,
NMA, Pokhara Chapter thanked all the guests present in the
program and hoped that the wall will be major tourism
prodcut for Pokhara. He expressed his personal gratitude to
His Excellency, Mr. Henri Sigayret and his family.

Central Board Meeting-
24 May 2006
The Central Board Meeting of NMA was held on 24 May 2006 at
2:00 pm at NMA Secretariat. The meeting welcomed the
declaration of House of Representative-2063 and kept
one-minute silence in the honor of martyrs who got martyrdom
in the People Movement-2063. The Board Meeting discussed on
various decisions of different committees and endorsed the
decisions. The Board Meeting also decided to participate in
UAAA Council Meeting (10-11 June 2006) and UIAA Asia Forum
(June 17, 2006) meeting scheduled to be held in Chinese
Taipei and New Delhi, India respectively. NMA President Mr.
Ang Tshering Sherpa will lead the delegation to Chinese
Taipei. Mr. Deebas Bickram Shah, General Secretary and Mr.
Vinaya Shakya, Chief Administrative Officer will accompany
him. Similarly, IInd Vice President Mr. Bhumi Lal Lama,
Members- Mr. Lok Bahadur Khatri ( Represent, Ministry of
Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation) Mr. Narayan Sunder
Shrestha, Mr. Sanata Bir Lama will participate in New Delhi
under the leadership of NMA President. The Board Meeting
also decided to call General Assembly- 2006 of NMA on 15
August 2006.

Felicitation of Everest Summiteer-

NMA held a
felicitation program at the NMA Secretariat in honor
of Ms. Lakpa Sherpa, the first lady to climb Mt.
Everest for 6 times. Ms. Sherpa reached at the
summit on 11 May 2006, Thursday at 10:00 am Chinese
time. She conquered from North East Ridge under the
banner of International Everest Expedition 2006. She
expressed her feelings for being the record holder
in climbing Everest.
