Remarks by Ang Tshering Sherpa, President, Nepal Mountaineering Association in Joint Press Conference on Announcement of Donation & Establishing new funds for the families of died and missing climbers in avalanche on Everest.

First of all, my sincere thanks goes to all the friends, journalists, family members of the climbers died and missing in the avalanche occurred on 18 April 2014 for their presence in today's program.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Seven Summits Actions for Sustainable Society (SSASS) for its generous support for the surviving members of the climbers. Ken Noguchi, President of SSASS, whose initiation and interest to support for the families helped to us to organize this conference to inform about his commitment to support of US $ 100,000: (One Hundred Thousand US Dollar). Since NMA needs to complete some government administrative procedures to get donation from the international sector, we are in the process of getting approval, hence we have organized this program for the expression of commitment for the support from SSASS. As soon as we complete the criteria of the government, the committed fund will be transferred to our dedicated account.

I would like to mention here that all the Nepalese climbers died and missing in the avalanche are equal for us and we don't want any climber to be ignored in the course of receiving financial assistance. That is why we are in the process of creating basket fund for the support of surviving family members, relief and rescue funds for such incidence that may occur in future. We are receiving emails and phone calls from our friends around the world with the interest to support the family members. Being the responsible member of International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA) and Asian Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UAAA), we would like to use our foreign relationship for the betterment of this fund.

It is also worthwhile to mention here that Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) had decided to give us the responsibility to look after the management of education of the children of the deceased mountaineers. Similarly, the ministry is also planning to handover NMA the management of some more peaks and from the income generated, certain amount of the fund will be used for the Mountaineers Relief Fund. These two decisions helped in the increment of our morale to request to all our concerned friends and association for the extension of their support for the welfare of families of Nepalese mountaineers. We will also use General Assemblies of UIAA and UAAA for the dissemination of these decisions, which will definitely help in attaining our objective.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks once again to SSASS for the kind support and I hope this cooperation will open the door to all the interested donors to be involved in this noble cause. I also would like to request to all our friends about the government's decision as an attempt of one door policy to forward support for the bereaved families of Nepalese mountaineers, who left this earth during the expedition. Please join me to express our sincere condolence to all the families, friends and teammates of the climbing Sherpas who perished on Mt. Everest on 18 April 2014, while serving their customers. Our hearts are with their families in this time of sorrow. May their soul rest in eternal peace and give courage to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss!

Thank you once again.
