"Remembering David Breashears: A Good Friend of Nepal"

The legacy and impact of the late David Breashears were respectfully commemorated and discussed today.

The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and the Nepal Tourism Board jointly organized a "Memorial Service," a heartfelt celebration of Mr. Breashears' life and his profound contributions. Throughout the program, all the speakers shed light on the vast spectrum of his achievements and contributions.

David Breashears, a mountaineer, photographer, filmmaker, and climate advocate, left a lasting mark on Nepal's mountain tourism landscape. His cinematic endeavors and unwavering activism against the adverse impact of climate change in Nepal's peaks have garnered widespread acclaim and gratitude.

Among the distinguished speakers at the event were Mr. Jason Meeks, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy; Ms. Anne Dare, Head of Communications at ICIMOD; Mr. Peter Hillary, mountaineer and son of Sir Edmund Hillary; Ms. Ang Diku Sherpa, a close friend of Mr. Breashears; Ms. Lisa Choegyal, Honorary Consul of New Zealand; Mr. Kunda Dixit, a Senior Journalist; Mr. Thakur Raj Pandey, Senior Vice President of the NMA; and Ms. Nandini Lahe Thapa, Officiating CEO of the NTB.

Each speaker illuminated Mr. Breashears' impactful work, sharing personal stories and profound experiences with the beloved icon. David Breashears peacefully passed away on March 14 at the age of 68, succumbing to natural causes at his home in the USA.

Though he may have bid farewell to this world, his spirit and contributions will forever resonate among the mountains he loved and in the hearts he touched.
