June 8, 2024

The important photographs from the historic 1924 Mount Everest Expedition have been put on permanent display in the International Mountain Museum (IMM), enabling visitors to experience this adventurous expedition through photos.

The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Tak Raj Gurung, the Honorable Minister for Economic Affairs, and Mr. John Porter, the Honorary Secretary of the Mount Everest Foundation. The photo was provided by the Mount Everest Foundation.

The 1924 Mount Everest expedition was the 2nd expedition with the goal of achieving the first ascent of Mount Everest after the 1922 British Mount Everest expedition. However, it took 29 years until the successful ascent of Mount Everest. On 29th May 1953, Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmond Hillary became the first individuals to conquer the summit of Mount Everest. Nevertheless, these earlier expedition endeavors paved the way for this historic achievement.

During the event, a documentary titled “Everest Revisited” was also screened. The documentary has chronicled the journey of all these Everest expedition attempts.

Additionally, the NMA corner and a Biodiversity Map prepared by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) has also been unveiled in IMM. The Biodiversity Map was unveiled by Mr. Rakesh Gurung, the Director of Adventure Tourism and Mountaineering Section under the Department of Tourism; and Dr. Ganesh Gurung, Advisor of the NMA. The NMA corner was revealed by Dr. Krishna Chandra Devkota and Honorable Member of Gandaki Province Parliament Ms. Sarashowti Gurung.

Prior to these events, a formal program was organized where Mr. Mohan Lamsal, General Secretary of the NMA; extended a warm welcome to all guests and participants, while Mr. Thakur Raj Pandey, Senior Vice President, expressed gratitude to them.

To conclude the proceedings, in line with World Environment Day, all the guests participated in a plantation program within the IMM premises.
