Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality today mutually agreed to collaborate for the promotion of sustainable mountain tourism in Khumbu region.

In a discussion held today in Kathmandu, NMA and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality verbally agreed to this regard. Major agreements from today’s meeting will be incorporated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon and will be brought into the execution. 

Representatives from NMA and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality will meet soon to discuss further possible areas of collaboration. The team will find out at least 10 such possible projects and will work on them.

NMA and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality have been enjoying cordial relationships for a very long time. 

NMA president Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa expressed his humbleness regarding the collaboration.  ‘‘I am aware of our history of collaboration. I would like to extend my gratitude to the President and representatives of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality for initiating this collaboration’’, President Mr. Sherpa said, ‘‘We should stand together for the betterment of our mountain tourism. I am committed the NMA support.’’ NMA president Sherpa also updated the delegates of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality with NMA activities. 

Chairperson of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Mr. Mingma Tsheri Sherpa seconded the thoughts of the NMA President. 

‘‘As we belong to the same place, I also have the same thoughts as Nima Dai. There are many areas that we could collaborate for the betterment of mountain tourism’’, Chairperson Mr. Sherpa said, ‘‘Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality will be ready for any kind of proposal for our collaboration.’’

Advisor of the NMA Dr. Ganesh Gurung suggested finding out the possible area of collaboration. ‘‘It will be easy to find the donors after you finalize the project,’’ he said. Vice Chairperson of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Ms Tashi Lhamu Sherpa expressed readiness to work diligently with setting up the priorities. 

Senior Vice President of NMA Mr. Thakur Raj Pandey, Secretary Mr. Dhan Bahadur Gurung, renewable energy expert Mr. Kushal Gurung, ward chair of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Ward No. 4 Mr. Laxman Adhikari, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Kul Prasad Rai and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) were also present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, NMA president Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa has been appointed as advisor of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality. Chairperson of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Mr. Mingma Tsheri Sherpa announced the news during the meeting today.
