Today, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), in
collaboration with its Environment Committee, celebrated World Environment Day at Dakshinkali Ward No.5. The event was inaugurated by Mr.
Shyam Bahadur Khatri, the Ward Chairman, and Mr. Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Secretary
of NMA. They commenced the program by conducting a cleanup at the Shesnarayan
Temple. During his welcome speech, Chairman Mr. Khatri acknowledged NMA's
initiatives and the association's support for the local area through various
projects. Following the speech, Secretary Mr. Gurung presented two dustbins for
the temple.
Subsequent to that, the team comprising of Secretary Mr. Gurung, Mr. Singi Lama, the Convener of the NMA Environment Committee, the committee members, Mr. Ram Kaji Tiwari, member of NMA Training and Expedition Committee, various tourism stakeholders, the former Chairperson of Dallu Community Forest, Mr. Raj Kumar Tamang, who is also the NMA's Account Officer, and other NMA staff members, advanced towards the Rock Climbing Spot which was explored by NMA to continue the cleanup efforts. Once the area was cleaned, the team moved to the Picnic Spot of the site and tidied up the surroundings. Mr. Gurung once again handed over two dustbins for the area.
Upon completion of the cleanup
program, the team returned to the Shesnarayan Temple from where the program began. Mr. Ram Kaji Tiwari, a
member of the NMA Training and Expedition Committee, distributed a book that
contained valuable information about different types of disposable and
non-disposable waste. He took the opportunity to raise awareness among the
local committee about the specific waste types encountered during the cleanup
and provided guidance on how to effectively manage them. In the closing
remarks, Secretary Mr. Gurung and Convenor of the Environment Committee, Mr.
Singi Lama, expressed their gratitude to everyone for their participation and
acknowledged their collective efforts in making the program a success.
